Introducing the hottest new rider in the BMCRC Championship for 2006 - #39 Phil Edwards
Who is Phil Edwards?
Phil Edwards is one of the BMCRC's brightest new talents. After years of road experience on top sports bikes including a Honda CBR 400, Suzuki GSX-R 600 and a Yamaha R1, Phil has begun his first championship in the BMCRC MRO Rookie 600 Series, riding a 2003 Yamaha R6. Phil's ability on the road showed his racing potential quite clearly, which was strengthened by consistently producing seriously quick lap-times at various track days around the UK. With expert advice from British Supersport rider and good friend Andy Weymouth he is now focussed on his racing this season and achieving what we all know he can do.

The Bike
Phil's bike for this season is a 2003 Yamaha R6. It is equipped with an MHP exhaust, Ohlins rear shock, front and rear braided lines and full R&G protection.

Round 1 - Brands Hatch Indy (11-12th March 2006)
The opening round of this year's championship was at Brands Hatch on the weekend of 11th and 12th of March. Phil had to start from the sixth row of the grid for the opening race of the four-race weekend. By Druids bend on the opening lap he had flown up to an incredible 6th position and continued his way through the field to finish an amazing 2nd position by the end of the 8-lap race! This performance was matched by another 2nd position in Saturday's second race, after leading for a few laps mid-race.
Sunday saw Phil in confident mood after the strong results from Saturday's two races, and his first race weekend saw him take to the top step of the podium. Not once, but twice! These results saw him take an early lead in the championship race. Here are the full race results for the season's opening round -
